Friendly match with Agric.dept!

The medical students(BAMS) and the Agric students(NASS) had a football match on the mid day of the week, wednesday 22nd july.
At around 5pm,the match was played on the school field and a lot of supporters were around to watch their teams play as it was in the summer period,so not a lot of students were around.
The BAMS player wore the light green jersey while the Agric students wore their normal dark green jersey which signifies their plant and all......!
The match started with an early goal from BAMS in the first half while the NASS students equalised in the late minute of the second half.
The game ended as a tie...but it was a very fantastic game from both sides...

VIEW POINT: ABORTION by Tatama Deborah Fori

First attested in the mid 16th century, was the cessation of fetal development. The arrested development of a foetus - an artistic atrocity, an ABORTION.
The ethical issues, whether abortion is right or wrong has not reached any general n. Whether abortion is right or wrong is seen from different perspectives- morally, medically, religiously. We are all just looking from our points of view.

PRIDE!!!!

For those that stand at the edge of a cliff and jump in an attempt to commit suicide can we say that they are proud, I mean pride must have pushed them and left them struggling to keep balance, laughing and WALKING away since pride GOES (away) before a FALL... And the sky divers✈falling steadily...could there ever be a humble one among them.

So here is the thing, I have found that the proud never fall immediately, infact they seem to rise, their confidence increasing every time a humble person FALLS to his feet in reverence and humility. You must know that their fall begins when they start seeing themselves as bigger than everyone else, they become selfish and even their love is self centered so they 'TRIP' for no one else but themselves...and when they trip, they FALL...not in love but in the SEAS of calamity🏊 perhaps searching for the rare FISHES🐟 only proud people SELL(selfish) but then drown in it never to rise again.

The fall of a man that jumps from a cliff is better than their FALL, its even better to be a skydiver with a faulty parachute than experience THAT fall. When a proud man falls, pride doesn't push him off that cliff...he simply trips. All pride does is to let the whole world know📢🔊 for he still shouts out his superiority over others as he struggles to keep balance, so the whole world stops and stares and pride as usual laughs and GOES (AWAY)🚶...before THAT fall.

Herpes Drug might be useful for HIV treatment

A widely used herpes drug also seems to help people with the HIV virus, even if those people don’t also have herpes, a new small study found.

The researchers said their findings challenge the belief that drug Valtrex (valacyclovir) requires the presence of herpes to benefit people with HIV-1. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.

The study included 18 HIV patients in Peru. When patients took Valtrex twice daily for two weeks, they had decreases in HIV-1 levels. Patients taking a placebo saw their HIV levels go up.

Experts thought that Valtrex worked against HIV by reducing inflammation caused by the herpes virus.

This would give the HIV virus fewer active immune cells to attack, reducing the spread of the virus.

But the drug doesn’t depend on reducing inflammation to work against HIV, said study co-senior author Dr. Michael Lederman, a professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland.

This means that Valtrex can be used in a broader range of people with HIV-1, and also suggests promising new directions for creating new HIV drugs, the researchers said.

That’s especially important because some forms of HIV-1 have become resistant to existing drugs.

“The drug might be an agent that can be used safely in some people with HIV infection who have a form of HIV that is highly resistant to other antiretroviral drugs,” Lederman said in a university news release.

“Valacyclovir might well augment the cocktail of medications they take for reducing HIV replication.

Valacyclovir is a well-tolerated drug, and it doesn’t have a lot of side effects,” he added.

The findings were published online in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

Sexual Health

When we talk about sexual health, the focus is usually on women because of their many peculiarities. However, sexual health goes beyond gender, as it affects men and women alike. Indeed, experts aver that reproductive health is an important component of men’s overall health and well-being.

One of the things that make men who they are is the male sex organ; its overall well-being cannot be overemphasised if men must function optimally biologically, mentally, physically and physiologically.

Physicians advise that routine visits with a health care provider can help prevent serious illness, as they can readily diagnose and treat the common conditions that affect men before they spiral out of control.

The Guttmacher Report on Public Policy laments that for much of their lives, men need a range of medical and, in particular, educational and counseling services to protect their own health and well-being, as well as to equip thems to be good partners and fathers.

It notes that though policymakers are beginning to focus on men’s roles as fathers and husbands, little attention is being paid to their sexual and reproductive health needs. “Available data illustrate that those needs are substantial and long-term,” the report further says.

What are these health peculiarities that men should be aware of for overall well-being? Read on.

Peyronie’s disease

Also known as induratio penis plastica or chronic inflammation of the tunica albuginea (the fibrous covering of the testis), physicians say this disease is caused by scar tissue along the length of the male sex organ, causing it to bend. The condition can make sexual intercourse painful or difficult outright, physicians say submit.

A General Practitioner, Dr. Grace Asiodu, says while the cause of this disease is basically unknown, researchers believe that it can develop after a trauma to the male sex organ – such as if something hits it hard, which may lead to bleeding inside the penis.

Again, she says – and this is instructive – certain medicines can have side effects that include Peyronie’s disease. “That is why we say it’s dangerous to indulge in self-medication or abuse of drugs that the doctor may have prescribed for you at one point or the other,” Asiodu warns.

She also discloses that the disease sometimes runs in families, but that if sexual intercourse is not affected, it may not elicit much anxiety.

She says the problem is mostly visible when the penis is erect, as it can cause the organ to bend into an arc shape, a situation that sometimes results in sharp pain.

In terms of overall healing of this disease, opinion differs. While some doctors say the situation can resolve itself in about five to 19 per cent of the cases, some patient’s case may require surgical correction.

However, according to Dr. Culley C. Carson III of the University of North Carolina, “a full recovery isn’t guaranteed.”

Beware of fish

Do you love to swim? Actually, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with swimming, except that you should know ahead of it the types of fish that can be your unwanted companion while the exercise lasts!

One fish to beware of as you swim is the candiru – also known as the vampire fish or toothpick fish. Experts describe it “as a species of parasitic freshwater catfish that is peculiar to Latin America.

The horror surrounding this small fish is that, unlike other fish that we know, it is parasitic and feeds on blood!

How this affects you as a man? Here: the fish is so tiny that it can literally swim into your penis opening as you swim. Once inside of your manhood, it sees your urethra as a fish’s gill and then spreads a network of umbrella-like spines, which allow it to feed on your blood.

Experts say it could be removed through surgical intervention; but they also warn that the process could be terribly painful.

So, before you jump into that water, you may want to wear a cap on your manhood!

As an African, your salt intake should be minimal

Salt is the spice of life. In fact, it gives our food a unique taste that is lacking in other condiments. However, if you are an African or an African American; or if you are of the African descent, you should take it easy when it comes to salt use.

Scientists warn that salt, also known as sodium salt, can be harmful to our health. According to them, evidence has emerged that Blacks, especially Africans, are genetically prone to sodium retention, a condition that predisposes people of our race to high blood pressure or hypertension.

Hypertension is a killer. According to the World Health Organisation, about 7.5 million people globally die of hypertension-related diseases, representing 12.8 per cent of all the deaths that occur annually.

In Nigeria, it is estimated that at least one in every four Nigerians has high blood pressure, while about 57 million citizens are estimated to be hypertensive, with many undiagnosed.

This statistics should send shivers down the spine of anyone that has been diagnosed with high blood pressure. More importantly, it should be mind-boggling for those who do not know their status.

Executive Director, Nigerian Heart Foundation, Dr. Kingsley Akinroye, notes that hypertension is the number one killer of the adult population due to its link to heart diseases.

Akinroye says it has also been found that Africans are more susceptible to this condition because of their intolerance for sodium, a major component of salt.

The physician quickly notes that it is not that Africans eat too much of salt; rather, he says, the genetic make-up of Africans is not compatible with salt use, as it increases their risk for hypertension.

Akinroye explains that hypertension causes damage to the blood vessels and vital organs in the body when it is not controlled, leading to heart disease, diabetes and other organ failure.

The physician says the high prevalence of hypertension globally is a major reason why many die suddenly of this rather manageable disease.

Corroborating Akinroye’s assertions, the medical consultant to Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc, Dr. Jude Duru-Onweni, says that sodium retention is, more often than not, the precursor of high blood pressure.

According to him, local studies by Nigerian scientists have found that most Africans who have hypertension usually have sodium retention. He says, “The black DNA system cannot manage salt, compared to the Caucasians.”

Duru-Onweni says that a major way in which salt creeps into the body system is through our diets. According to him, the fast foods and snacks that are popular among the upwardly mobile these days are laden with questionable and unacceptable concentrations of salt.

He says, “Salt is not just the physical salt we see. All packaged foods are preserved with a high concentration of salt. All fizzy drinks are also preserved with salt. In reality, all those ‘slow’ (indicating how fast foods slow down metabolism) foods which people call fast foods slowly lead you to death because they are laden with salt.

“We are so scared about the coming generation because they eat a lot of fast foods. They don’t eat much healthy food,” Duru-Onweni laments.

The ideal way to reduce your risk for high blood pressure, therefore, is to reduce your salt intake by all means through your diet.

However, it is not only salt that spikes blood pressure levels. Some habits such as tobacco use can also predispose anyone to this condition that is responsible for two million cases of disabilities from stroke and paralysis each year.

Physicians say that not only does smoking or chewing tobacco immediately raise your blood pressure temporarily, but the chemicals in tobacco can damage the lining of the artery walls by causing them to narrow, increasing one’s blood pressure thereby.

Natural ways to lower your blood pressure

Eat a healthy diet: Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products and skips saturated fat and choles

Painkillers are not sweets, use only as directed

The stressful and energy exerting schedules that many of us go through on a daily basis can leave us spent at the end of the day. It is only natural that we reach for some pain relief medications to douse the tension.

Most pain relief medications can be bought over-the-counter in pharmacies, hence the reason we have them all over the place – including inside our cabinets in homes and offices.
